"Swan Song", a cold molded, wood/epoxy/fiberglass, performance sailboat. Designed and built 2005 by the late and famed Robert Finch on Bainbridge Island, WA. Robert Finch is a well renowned naval architect with credit towards a number of popular sailboat designs. Swan Song in particular was based on the hull form of the Islander 30 (also a Robert Finch design). The builder/designer custom built numerous cold molded sloops that are sailing the world to this day.
Designed and built to be a comfortable and fast coastal cruiser, she has proven her abilities with a sail down the West coast. Robust yet refined, all in this tidy package of 31'.
Light winds or heavy air, her double spreader, keel-stepped rig and generous sail plan offer a great sailing experience. Below the water is a very shapely hull with a deep fin keel and spade rudder.
With her robust cross planked, cold molded construction, she offers the warmth, charm and silence of a wooden hull and the ease of maintenance that fiberglass affords.
Deck and cockpit layout offer great ergonomics throughout. The beautiful dodger keeps you out of the elements and the walk-through transom makes boarding from dock or dinghy very safe and simple. All controls are led aft to the cockpit, jib furling, lazy jacks, reefing.... Single handing under sail or motor is done with ease.
Part of the pleasure in her design is great access to all systems and structures of the boat. Easy maintenance of the engine with the removal of the companionway stairs and the cockpit sole hatch.
Outfitted with a Maxwell vertical windlass and a huge chain locker, she carries 250' G4 1/4" chain with a 25# Spade properly fitted to the bow. The Maxwell windlass is push button operation and powers both in and out.
The cabin... 6' + standing headroom, full galley with pressure hot/cold water, propane stove/oven (gimbaled), DC refrigerated icebox, Corian countertops, Wilcox Skipper head, shower, Dickinson P12000 Bulkhead heater, teak folding table, settees on each side with a large Vberth forward. Tons of storage throughout, many opening portholes and hatches for lots of light and ventilation. Many thoughtful design features to the interior make for a comfortable and very practical space.
Under sail offers a roachy dacron mainsail with single line slab reefing x 2, 130% dacron genoa and a nearly brand new Asymmetrical Spinnaker in a dousing sock. She was built with the appropriate structure to carry an inner forestay ( Cutter Rig ). The chain locker bulkhead has the necessary and properly designed chainplate installed and the mast has the appropriate tang for the stay. I could supply an inner forestay if one were inclined to rig her as a cutter.

Swan Song. A very special, TURNKEY sailboat that has benefitted from an "open checkbook" maintenance and upgrade program.
In the last 3 years, she has been professionally lavished with maintenance, repairs and upgrades to the tune of nearly $100k.
To mention a few.... New standing rigging, running rigging, ALL hardware removed and rebedded, paint and varnish top to bottom, stem to stern, new portholes....
The 2005 Universal diesel was removed for a full refurbish making it a "like new" engine in both appearance and reliability.
And so much more.
Hauled out for fresh antifouling, mast step repair, new propeller and bilge paint in June 2025.
The slip she is in is transferrable if the harbormaster deems the next owner worthy.
She could be the modern queen of the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival if you were so inclined.
She will pass even the most rigorous of surveys with flying colors as she is in EXCELLENT condition!
This is a must see, ready-to-go sailboat.
